Yanique Muhammad believes the best thing about being a first-time homebuyer is having the freedom to improve and enhance your home without having to get approval from anyone including a landlord.
Yanique and her husband Adamu, have four children, three daughters and one son, ages nine, seven, five and six months. They live in the Oakland, CA area. Adamu, has worked in maintenance in the Engineering department of Highland Hospital for the past five years. Yanique and Adamu have been married for ten years and purchased their first home in 2018.
Yanique started the Unique Daycare center out of her home four and a half years ago. She teaches grades K-12 in this center, and she has just recently received her certification to become a Head Start Center. The Head Start program provides a safe and healthy learning experience indoors and outdoors for children. All children receive health screenings and nutritious meals. The program also connects families with medical, dental and mental health services to ensure children are receiving the care and attention they need.
Yanique’s Unique Daycare Center provides educational services to anyone in the community regardless of their subsidy status. She works with low-income families and is always willing to offer the services to children regardless of their parent’s income level.
Yanique also started a 501C3 non-profit called Unique Horizons which collects and distributes food, clothes and toys to families in need throughout the community. People drop off these goods at her home that are then distributed to families in need in her community. Her dream is to purchase a small facility that can help her grow this charitable organization.
Yanique’s favorite memory of her home is being able to look at their house now, after almost fully renovating it, and seeing the transition from what the house looked like when they purchased it to what it looks like now. She also added that she believes her older children have that same favorite memory plus now they will have another favorite memory of seeing their baby sister come home for the first time in this home.
Yanique worked with Envoy Loan Originator, Mike Sullinger to purchase her home. She really enjoyed working with Mike, and thought he was very transparent, straightforward and said the process to close her home went very smoothly.
