Maria Medrano Bernal is a Receptionist at Angels That Work, an agency providing certified nursing assistants to group homes and daycare centers for the mentally disabled. She lives with her husband, Francisco, a construction worker, in Missouri City, Texas.
During the height of the pandemic, Maria continued to work to support the agency. Since her husband is a construction worker, he had to stop and stat work many times due to mandates.
Maria has three grown children and two of her sons both lost their jobs during the pandemic and are still looking for work. One of her sons was involved in a car accident and is unable to search for a job because he has to make repairs his car. Unfortunately, his unemployment claims have run out and he is trying to fix his car so he can begin his employment search.
Maria also has a daughter and two grandchildren who now live at her home in Houston. Unfortunately, her daughter and her daughter’s husband were both laid off from their positions as well.
Despite each setback, Maria said her biggest blessing is that everyone in her family remained healthy.
Maria and Francisco closed on their home in January 2021. Maria said she had a hard time finding a home, but Alex Sada, an Envoy Mortgage loan originator, was so optimistic they finally got their home. When describing Sada, she said “Alex was awesome, he was like family to us and kept encouraging us to not give up!”
Maria’s hope for the future is to keep upgrading her home!
